Have you really tried the bread?

I walked around Union Square Park today after getting off the R train at 14th street. (After reading this a few days after I wrote it I have returned to tell you that the today I was referencing there was Wednesday November, 22nd. Not to be confused with today, which is Friday November 24th. I would NOT wander anywhere near Union Square on black Friday)
The south-west perimeter has been turned into a Christmas village of sorts. I couldn't exactly see what was going on because it was fenced off in red and white striped fencing. No admittance. It must be a pretty substantial Christmas village because they brought in a truck mounted generator to power it all. This also was fenced off in red white striped fencing. Nothing to see here. No generator behind the candy striped fence. All I wanted to do was sit down. But I got caught up in exploring all the stuff they crammed into the park and found myself in the farmers market on the north side of the park. I would have walked around it but that would have taken me out of my way(I didn't really have a way, but didn't feel live deviating from my chosen path)so I walked through the market. Purveyors of all sorts of things, most edible. The usual organic this and pesticide free that. I really couldn't care less. And then I saw bread. Rolls and loafs of bread. Bread I care about. Have you tried the bread, as Lucas and I are fond of saying. Bad bread makes for a bad sandwich. White bread out of a plastic bag is a crime against bread. The French know bread. The Germans are big on crusty little rolls, some of which are good. I guess you can get good bread anywhere if you look hard enough, and stay away from the supermarket. Bread comes from bakeries. Where bakers practice the art of baking. Good bread doesn't need anything on it at all. Of course chicken cutlet on good bread with good bbq sauce makes everyone happy. That is if you like bread, chicken and bbq sauce. I came home with a loaf of San Francisco sour dough and a sour dough baguette. I sliced the SF sour dough loaf and froze it. The baguette, chicken and sauce have fed me tonight. If tomorrow wasn't thanksgiving the bread and chicken would probably feed me then as well. But tomorrow is turkey day. Bread doesn't factor in that much on turkey day itself. But the day after, leftovers, turkey sandwiches. Sandwiches need good bread. Need I say more.
